During the Gold Rush, boat captains would abandon their ships to go north to find gold.  They were later give an incentive to fill in around the boats and they could then own the property.  These ships were often turned into hotels, brothels and bars.  Now they are several yards under downtown SF.  On ship has the N Judas running through it's wooden hull.  This series is large, 5 feet x 5 feet each, oil on wood panels and imagined as if tall skyscrapers were not built on top of them but as they might lay undisturbed on the bottom of the bay.
