Oils were my first medium. I studied with this artist in West Texas who held her lessons at her house. The house was in the middle of a grove of pecan trees that had been planted in the shape of Texas. I still love the way it smells and how easily it can be blended on the canvas. But it's toxicity and difficulty with cleaning it up has lead me to acrylics. But I may return.
After painting with Oils, Acrylic is both a challenge and a joy. The immediacy of it forces me to act and paint quickly. Mistakes are not as easy to manipulate into beauty. But it is fun to layer because of how fast it dries.
I mostly paint on canvas but came across some beautiful redwood and some of the textures and grains of the wood inspired me to paint on it and use the nature imperfections to add to the layers of my images. If you would like to learn more, click here to join my mailing list.
